This is from a paper I wrote back in 2019 (and it’s actually published in a book!) before #nostr was invented.
You can see why I was floored by fiatjaf (npub180c…h6w6) ‘s invention because it put the ‘locus of control’ back into the hands of the user.
In terms of #nostr , looking at the right hand side of the diagram, the register is the relay and the user is both issuer and verifier.
The problem with all of the existing ‘solutions’ embracing the left hand side of the diagram, is that despite all of the technology improvements, it’s making the power asymmetry problem even worse for the user. The vendor and government community would have you believe they are giving you a more convenient life, but one day you will wake up in a regime of total authority (for your good, they say)
IMHO, #nostr is the best way out, I am in control, so I am all in.
