Question for my hardware/electrical-engineering nerd friends. In this picture are low-end LED task lights from a bog-standard shady online vendor of cheap Chinese electronics junk. I expected very little, but I didn't expect both power leads to be black (one was red in the photo).

It's supposed to be wired into an AC plug. My dim memory of undergrad electronics suggests the first component is probably an AC-to-DC transformer so it doesn't matter.... But am I forgetting some other possibility?
