AFAIK, instead of AppleScript, they now heavily encourage App Intents (and related, like Siri Intents), which are used by Shortcuts, some Siri features, and especially Apple Intelligence. So the principle is similar, though the interface changed significantly. (I think for the better, but I suspect this is a hot take.)
