Today I did peach cobbler, and peeling peaches made me think of my grandmother. She was complaining, over my shoulder, "Ahh, look at all that good fruit left on the peel, you're wasting too much!" I can still smell her kitchen, so well-vented and clean it smelled more like warm metal than food. Except candy, when she made candy the whole place up to the attic smelled like cocoa.
