I was visiting ILM (at that point, an unmarked building in San Rafael) while they were filming the Genesis Effect sequence for WoK. So there was this graphics monitor sitting in a room very slowly drawing each frame. I think it took a couple of minutes (or longer) each. There was a 35mm camera in front of it that was automatically clicking off frames. So as each frame slowly completed, the camera would click and the next frame would start painting on the monitor. I couldn't resist the urge to put my hand in front of the camera, that's why there's one frame where you can see a hand if you watch very closely. HA, just kidding!

HOWEVER, in "The Time Machine" (1960), there is indeed one frame where you can see someone's fingers holding a card during one of the effects sequences. I discovered it by accident many many years ago when splicing a print of the film. That frame has survived in every copy I've seen since then (DVD, streaming, etc.) right through to today.
