Auckland: Skytower Bunjee Jumping; The Harbour Bridge climb; Auckland Art Gallery. Cape Reinga: Light House, 90 Mile Beach. Kaitaia: Kauri Gum Fields/Museum.
Rotorua: Mud Baths/Pools; Red Wood Treetop Walks
Gisbourne: Rhythm and Vines music festival. Napier/Hastings: Art Deco Festival.
Wellington: Te Papa Museum.

South Island is more adventure and exploration.

Nelson: Blue Lake
Nelson/Blenheim: Wineries
Kaikaura: Whale watching
Christchurch: Port Hills
Lyttelton: Lighthouse; Quail Island Leper Colony
Queenstown: Shot over Jetboat; Skiing; Frans Joseph/Fox Glacier; Bungee Jumping; Paragliding
Canterbury/West Coast: lots of nature walks and trecks

Look for uniquely Kiwi foods like Hangi, or Hangi Pies; Kiwi Burgers; Creamed Paua or Paua Fritters; Whitebait Fritters; Kina; Kumara Chips, and Fejoas.
