There were a half dozen roses in front of the house when I moved in thirty-five years ago.
They had never been pruned and were frequently nibbled by deer.
This year, I went all out to save this one of the original six.
My husband didn't want to give up on it, so I said I would try.
It hadn't bloomed in a few years.
I dug all the excess dirt away from the base and cut away the dead wood. About half of the plant went away. My husband said I really chomped on it.
Slowly, we started to see new growth, and today, it finally bloomed.
I love a happy ending.
