We blocked off everything on the river side of the property to protect the watershed and extend the wildlife corridor that exists from our property up. We also have several natural springs in that area. Where we recently eliminated pasture it was mostly based on steepness/soil erosion. The slopes aren't thaaaat steep, but it became obvious that the slopes weren't holding up to that use.
