about the second statement it is pretty obvious that the cures involved were more harmful and life threatening to the sex workers than the diseases themselves as treatment with Mercury never ends well considering its toxicity
the point is not that sex work was worse than other jobs in the past but the fact that venereal diseases were untreatable especially for those who were marginalized and even today the same problems arises especially in the US healthcare system with basic treatments for STDs being expensive for those who are from marginalized groups
