#WritingWonders August 30. Have you ever planned to kill a character and then not done it?
Yes, twice in Bethany’s story, sort of. In the first draft one of her parents was already going to be deceased at the beginning of the story. But I liked the character too much and decided Bethany had enough to deal with without that kind of heartbreak.
I was also going to have one of the important secondary characters redeem something bad they’d done to Bethany by sacrificing themselves to protect her. But I liked them too much as well and figured they could keep on living and still redeem themselves. They could also be a really interesting ally or even antagonist in a future story.
