Today I learned about the HTML <dialog> element and the first thing I thought was, huh, that would be a really good mechanism for implementing a non-terrible lightbox gallery, and my second thought was, huh, an HTML-native way for webpages to provide godawful popover notifications, this is totally going to suck in about 30 minutes.
