I hate search as the default UI interaction paradigm. I know where my files are and don't want to burn power and waste time trying to find them when I can just open the folder I already know they're in.
Even on Linux this is an issue with the new GTK3 file browser dialog which doesn't let me just type a filename anymore, it tries to find any file matching that name in subdirectories etc and gets really annoying.
