I can often deduce these things through mailing list discussions, announcements that surface on LWN.net, Archive.org page captures, etc.
As projects 1) embrace more real-time discussion tools like Matrix and (ugh) Discord and 2) cycle through tools with greater regularity, that gets much harder.
