Interesting stuff. I've not read Scott's books, but I have listened to some of his talks.
My take:He makes some good arguments as to the arch of the rise of our civilization. That it is the unique central story of every civilization which dictates the direction that will be considered progress. He attempts to explain how sedentary (grain) farming begat our society's primary motivation of perpetual growth and how that core motivation fed the perpetual concentration of power.
