Bloomberg published a story today, with no bylines and murky sourcing, reporting that “Chinese officials are evaluating a potential option that involves Elon Musk acquiring the US operations of TikTok if the company fails to fend off a controversial ban on the short-video app”. If the story is accurate it would be a remarkable testament to how highly PRC officials think of Musk, and of his relationship with President-elect Trump. —Bill Bishop
