The world has far too many useless metrics. So many metrics that exist because they are easy to collect, but fail to pass (to me at least) the basic test of:
1. How does this tell me whether things are good or bad, trending where?
2. How does this help me make a decision to drive #1?
Me = whoever your target consumer for the metric is.
Do people have any other simple rules for judging metric quality?
Oh, and I find absolute numbers are typically largely useless in security.
