It makes me wonder if "we" got it right. I don't really know how the Nutcracker Suite sounded when Tchaikovsky first performed it. Nobody living does. Chances are that at least some of the original soul was lost in translation or lost to time. We don't have any original recordings to refer to like we do with 20th century artists.
