Maggots make that go away a lot faster than other processes.
Given enough ambient humidity, the rotting process can continue for a very long time.
With intermittent humidity, it can even periodically restart.
So I think that maggots are very, very useful.
Even better, while the rotting meat is inedible, the maggots are tasty.
