Devil's circles (or Devil's stamping grounds) are circular areas of land in which no plants will grow. It's said these areas have been blighted because the Devil walks repeatedly round them pondering ways to bring evil into the world. Folklore also often claims that no animals will cross the circles and that dogs taken near them become agitated. People who stand in them have reported feeling nausea and dread. Legends state that objects placed in the circles overnight will have disappeared by dawn and that live plants put in the circles will soon die. Some believe that anyone who sleeps in them will die too. Several such places are found across the United States.
