I love spending Bitcoin but have always been a spend and replace guy so it costs 1-2% depending on where you buy Bitcoin. More recently I found thebtcco (npub18tc…2nxx) and have realized I can earn Sats back on money I am already going to spend by just buying gift cards and then buying the stuff I need with them.
Last year I started buying dips and then buying gift cards with LN withdrawals from River (npub1xke…d0en) as needed. The cost to acquire sats there is 1.2% so if you earn more in rewards than that then you’re coming out ahead. I basically turned River into a spend only checking account with LN capabilities. I have been consistently buying gift cards to places like Cabella’s, REI, Visa and hotels.com and earned a nice chunk of Sats back (140k so far at a 6% Sat back ratio).
Buying the dips has me way up on purchasing power now too. It’s sort of trading but whatever it worked in my favor this time. And if I would’ve lost purchasing power so be it. I know it could’ve gone the other way.
