Communities does fix this & more need to be using the tools you've made.
i'm thinking more a microblogging solution, which would be unfortunate if that functionality was lost. Its like an extension of 1984 - parsing domains from urls, building a WoT for what to (not) render automatically, or ask users. The result is very much like what amethyst does, or if the user wants they can set some domains explicitly.
