On the hardware side, this consists of an ultrasonic distance sensor, "neopixel" LED strips, a battery pack, and a custom PCB onto which I slapped an ESP32-S3 and a mono amplifier, with connectors to attach the speaker, LEDs and sensor to, a custom 3D printed enclosure, a felt cover and an on/off switch. The cauldron is a cheap plastic thing off of Amazon, small and light enough to be carried by a 3 year old.
