Does anyone know if Dutch cafés are legally required to charge you for a plastic cup if you bring a reusable cup?
Because most Starbucks locations do that (they subtract the cup discount but add the plastic cup charge), whereas the Dutch government website seems to imply they shouldn't.
https://business.gov.nl/regulation/customers-must-pay-for-plastic-cups-and-containers/Your customers must pay for disposable plastic cups and containers if they collect or have food delivered.Implying they don't have to pay if it's not a disposable plastic cup
https://business.gov.nl/running-your-business/environmental-impact/making-your-business-sustainable/how-to-apply-the-rules-for-single-use-plastic-cups-and-containers/The customer can then decide: a reusable alternative, or pay extra for a single-use plastic cup or container.Seems like that says pretty explicitly that reusable alternatives are exempt.
I might write an email to complain to Starbucks about this.
