Technological 'progress' (if such it is) has moved from big to small. The microchip is certainly changing many aspects of life - but when I think about the scale of the changes my grandfather saw, compared with my own life, it can seem that progress has stalled. He spent his young life in a house without a surfaced road to it, let alone utilities; no radio, let alone television, etc. He was born before any airplane flew - yet lived to see men walk on the moon, a world reconfigured around the car, houses reconfigured around the television set.
Has the small focus of our new technology changed as much?
