I agree, all revolutions seem to promise a better world, once the hell of the revolution (and associated fatalities) has been passed through.... so yes it does sound like a requirement to wait it out.
And, I think you are right about the material realities impacting on individual choices, which is why for the rich in the end combatting extreme economic inequality actually may be in their best interest(s)
