People can have radically different proportions. I am a 6-foot-tall caucasian male, and yet when I sit down, I am 3-4 inches taller than my fellow 6-foot-tall caucasian males.
Because I have stumpy little legs - if they were in "proper" proportion I'd be 6-foot-6 or so. I do have good long arms though. Which means it's trivial for me to touch my toes even at my age. I'm basically an orangutan.
