Hanging out with a great artist this week has been a galvanising learning experience. for a start they don't even consider themselves an artist. Amazing.
The innovators, the curve ball left field thinkers who make a difference can really suffer, thinking they are mad, accused of being out of step, not serious, not living in the real world. In fact it is the oddballs who see life clearly and see what needs to change.
Nothing that matters ever came from concensus or aping the status quo. If we listened to the mainstream and how they think we should all live, we would still be in the dark ages.
And when you are on a different wavelength, you don't always have the same social skills, technical skills, mindset or focus as Mr and Mrs nonny mainstream, who have nothing in their head except conforming and Netflix and sticking to their routine. Nothing is distracting them. Good luck to them but they aren't the ones we are going to turn to, to make the world a better place.
It is crazy that so few understand that dynamic. He's a brilliant artist BUT...
Next time you hear someone focusing on an innovator's petty shortcomings not their insane talents - tell that person to stop and ask them what they ever did that made a difference! And if they didn't have the "shortcomings" they would have no space for the art.
