Did you know it is a theme in folklore and mythology that the world is resting on the back of a giant turtle? It is referred to as the world turtle or the cosmic turtle. It can be found in Hindu mythology and also Chinese folklore and myth. The World Turtle in Hindu mythology is known as Akūpāra (Sanskrit: अकूपार), or sometimes Chukwa.
It might be where Terry Pratchett got the idea for his disc world series.
