Ellen Cushing's piece in The Atlantic today is spot on. A campaign to Save the Honeybee is like a campaign to Save the Cow. It makes a certain amount of sense economically, but as a conservation concept, it's ridiculous.
The bees that need saving are native. They are mostly, but not exclusively, solitary. Some are fuzzy. Some are blue. They are infinitely more endangered, and more interesting, than old A. mellifera. And some of them are dying because of honeybees.
