It reads like typical executive walkback to me. His original post was long enough that it was thought through. For him to make from his position, in the forum is was posted, is not a case of "that's just, like, my opinion, man."

Their user and customer base is, in general, sensitive. They know that because that's what they cater to. We saw the legitimate concern it caused, and the immediate evaluation of other options, once the opinions of the CEO were widely known. For him to think that things will be cool if he keeps those same opinions quiet from now on feels like a shady business move, and not one that will positively impact the product.

I also embrace the number of people who saw that their last hope of privacy by way of a major tech company was misplaced and they need to adjust their risk models accordingly. They may be for people to accept the newly disclosed potential risk, and that's fine, but for the people unwilling to accept that risk, they are actively seeking ways to take more ownership of their own tech. Even if that's a decision that we as individuals don't agree is necessary, I think that we as a security and privacy minded community need to direct and educate people so they don't fall into the many proper privacy-themed scams out there.

I am legitimately glad that you are reassured. Truly. But I hope that you and others of the same mind are still willing to help those who disagree and are seeking new solutions.
