Easy.
In the nature vs nurture, nurture won the collective minds.
The state was the way to change the environment of the individual so they could change for the better. In the beginning, the state could only influence education, some blind redistribution of wealth.
But technology improved and the state became capable of influencing the ENTIRE environment. The state now wants to intermediate all human relations, and it kind of can.
The state is Thanos, its power is almost unlimited, but people still want to believe it can be used for good (they believe it’s the ultimate representation of the will of the people).
No other progressive alternatives exist now for coordination between humans. The state has absorbed all solutions because it’s Thanos, it can do it all. “If it can kill, it can give life”, “if it can steal, it can redistribute”.
Too many leftist statist simply believe “we must state more and better”
