I'm curious as to why you think that that breakup of AT&T was harmful? I can think of two (but only two) reasons off the top of my head:
- The de{moli,volu}tion of Bell Labs.
- Baby Bells still had local monopolies, which apart from half-assed effort from the Cable industry, actually gave them MORE monopoly power.
I can't imagine a world where TCP/IP thrives in America w/o Ma Bell's breakup, e.g.
