Indeed, the linear scale (and the horse shoe theory) are overly simplistic IMO. It is strange to me how in the US, a country of 330+ million people, there are essentially only two political parties. While in smaller countries there are numerous parties.
Personally, I see the politics as a three-dimensional space with political ideas not a single point in that space but as a free forming blobs that cover an area in that 3D space.
