I don't think this was a simplistic plan, or random circumstance. I listened with increasing alarm to the Rush Limbaugh show and other propaganda networks through the 90s. Rich people tried to weaponize the lowest information conspiratorial voters, and they cast enough shade at Hillary Clinton that we got the most ignorant, arrogant, apathetic, and least experienced president in US history. It was committed with intent and self interest by people rich enough to do so.
