In roughly the past month, I have noticed all kinds of people saying "flowers" in place of "compliments".
E.g., "I want to give you some flowers" - proceeds to give compliments.
E.g., "Thanks for the flowers!" - in response to a compliment.
What kicked that off? Is this (very likely) a pop culture reference going over my head? There's no demographic or regional pattern.
I've never heard this usage before the past month.
