So far every troll or serious asshole I've encountered on Mastodon has appeared to show up based on following one of my hashtags and they all trace back to small instances which are at-a-glance obviously set up to be a nest for trolls and an eyrie for the pernicious memes that travel in flocks.
The asshole who blamed my dogs' chronic pain on the "toxic" spray cheese I use for pill bribes was a covid denier and crypto promoter from a "libertarians fleeing censorship" themed server.
