This is the most birthday beam we’ll be seeing from the Super Proton Synchrotron. It’s the middle of the night at CERN right now. In just a few hours, they’ll be shutting off the beam for a whole day to swap out a magnet. The SPS first accelerated beam on June 17, 1976.
