Yes that may be expected for Florida. Not for Palmerston North.
I keep a season log where I take notes of what is happening during various weeks of the year. Form this week my notes read:
Weather:
* Daytime temps up to 23C are typical.
* Large gaps between rains
Soil:
* Exposed soil is very firm
Pasture/Grass:
* Long grass is dead straw, but still green beneath this year.
Topping is easier than in spring.
* Lawn flowers (clover, birdsfoot trefoil) still in bloom w/ bees.
* Dock has turned red
Trees:
* All deciduous trees fully in leaf
* Poplars barely have red leaves, but do have some
Fruits:
* Elderberry berries starting to turn black
But this year is different. Short gaps betwen rains. Soil has not firmed yet. No dead straw. Dock is still green. I will make a note for comparision in future years.
