NBN FFTN home internet is surprisingly expensive if you need it to be reliable:
- the 'business' variant of the service
- to a good quality modem with ongoing software updates
- with a good UTP build from the aerial landing to that modem
- to household structured cabling, including direct to the dock of the laptop
- access points in the 5GHz band, essentially meaning one per room
- a willingness to call that ISP for months on end so NBN does their job.
If you"d told me I had spent $20k on infrastructure for home internet across the past 20 years I wouldn't be shocked.
Is that a lot? I haven't spent that much on the plumbing. But I've spent that on the electricity.
