I was reading a few white papers on tariffs and it seems the only benefit they could possibly have short term is helping to reduce Fed deficit because of taxes on these imported goods being higher (and hopefully driver greater production of goods domestically) but what a lot of economists understand (given historical context and looking what happened the last time he held office) but the average American that voted for him doesnt - is that the amount of time and money it would take to bring manufacturing/production of both certain raw materials and finished goods back to the US is almost economically impossible.
It’s an old isolationist mentality that is useful ONLY in specific diplomatic situations. And this is no matter of diplomacy - at best maybe a matter of hubris.
