A stunning new #JWST image just dropped.
Meet the Sombrero #Galaxy. It's about 31 million light years away toward a direction on the border of the constellations Corvus and Virgo. It has about half the mass of the Milky Way. On spring evenings in the northern hemisphere it can be seen easily through a small telescope.
This view, in infrared light, highlights interstellar dust in the galaxy's outer disc (the bright blue ring seen here). Near the center is the bright glow of the galaxy's innermost region, home to a black hole with a mass a billion times that of the Sun.
