Many of us were raised to believe that looking out for your own self interest is bad. That selfishness is evil. Altruism and thinking about the good of all is superior.
This is wrong.
You'll never accurately know what's good for others. You'll never be able to rely on others making decisions that will benefit you over them.
And amazingly, by each person worrying about their own self interest, the world overall becomes a better place, each person improving it in ways that benefit them.
