We have some moulding machines in our factory that require support from companies in China. In order for our engineers to communicate with their engineers, we need to use WeChat, because it's all the Chinese engineers (are allowed to) use.
None of us wants to install the WeChat app on our phone. So I set up a spare sacrificial ipad on the company mobile device management plan and pushed the WeChat client onto it. But it does not look like it's possible to sign up for WeChat on an iPad, only to log into an existing account.
Even with a sacrificial phone number (pulled out of one of our trucks) we are SOL unless we install WeChat on the phone too.
Maloney Clause applies: don't be sinophobic; don't tell me that I should have made different decisions.
