yeah the locality of it is definitely important and a lot more interesting to me than generalizations. And thanks for the warning, there's so much of this in folklore and paganism in general, so much fascination with unbroken lineages and traditions. At the end of the day it shouldn't matter if the ritual or practice was invented yesterday if it's meaningful.
