this is a red herring though, it is not just impossible because a long tail... my point is it is not possible at any respectable scale (10s of millions) without centralisation... simply because decentralisation is a function of redundancy, and redundancy is an inverse function of cost, and building an index of 10s of millions of users activity with low latency is expensive as fuck.

see the cost of running Bluesky relay, and tell me how many of these do you expect to run for more than few months before giving up... and Bluesky is just starting.
