When I was in Rye recently, I went to see Henry James's house. He was a great one for entertaining his visitors with good food. This is his dining room, laid out for breakfast, and there he is on the wall, looking over proceedings with a benevolent eye.
Personally, I find his novels tending to the tedious, but I know he's a great favourite with many. I like some of his quotes though:
“Try to be one of those on whom nothing is lost.” (The Art of Fiction).
