Being able to escape Google hardware was indeed a major advantage of DivestOS.
In certain countries, Google phones aren't commonly sold and are only available from local merchants at a major mark up. DivestOS helped privacy enthusiasts to still experience a degree of escape without having to give up months or years' worth of savings.
While other custom OSs are still out there, I do hope someone else will take up the torch and continue wherr DivestOS left off.

I can not tell you how many times people would reply to our GrapheneOS ads with "What about DivestOS?"
And I'd reply "The main advantage of DivestOS is not using Google hardware. So if you keep using Google hardware with DivestOS, then it defeats the benefit. Also you got their apps from the same dev as the OS... But they earn no revenue. If they rug pull, you're fucked. You're relying on them to continue for free to be your slave for all these apps."
