MORNING WORKOUT: TRAINING
Dynamic stretches 10 minutes
Static stretches 15 minutes
Splits work 5 minutes
Kata practice 15 minutes
Weapons practice 15 minutes
Taking it a bit easier due to strenuous practice last night. I took it slower but still put in the effort to get full rotation of my joints with the weapons, deep breathing and proper technique in kata, etc. Basically a "healing" workout.
Using martial arts for healing/recovery isn't a new thing btw. Leon Ville talked about it in his use of Greco Roman wrestling, and the founder of Danzan Ryu Jujitsu had his students become something like physical therapists to balance out getting choked and thrown all the time.
With Karate, use of nonlethal weapons like sai and tonfa don't just help you protect yourself...they also protect joint mobility and flexibility. Same way high kicks are great for producing healthy hips!
