SARS-CoV-2 variants readily pseudorecombine. That's kinda of like having two or more Lego structures that are identical in composition but not color, tearing them apart, and rebuilding them into the same structure without regard for the color drawn. As long as the pieces fit, that's a win--it doesn't matter what genome they came from.
