It occured to me that the term 'Overton Window', describing the range of political policies deemed acceptable, is revealing. Why 'window'? That choice of metaphor implies an aloof perspective, detached from the real consequences. Academic and elitist. If invented by ordinary people, facing the lived consequences, 'box' would be more appropriate. So I wondered who Joseph Overton was.. and bingo! A political scientist, vice president of a major American free-market think tank (1/3)
